Zscaler has announced new AI security capabilities aimed at helping enterprises manage the security and governance risks associated with expanding use of generative AI and emerging agentic AI systems. The announcement frames the challenge as a visibility and control gap: many organizations do not have a complete inventory of AI applications and services in use—ranging from GenAI tools and AI development environments to embedded AI in SaaS, models, agents, and supporting infrastructure—making it difficult to understand exposure, data access, and policy compliance.

Zscaler also referenced findings from its ThreatLabz 2026 AI Security Report, stating that AI systems assessed in the study contained critical flaws and could be compromised quickly, highlighting how traditional security approaches may not effectively address AI-specific traffic patterns and non-human interactions.

The new AI security suite is presented as covering three areas. AI asset management is intended to provide an inventory of AI apps, models, agents, infrastructure, and usage, including the ability to identify unsanctioned (“shadow”) AI and assess what data AI systems interact with. Secure access to AI focuses on controlling access to approved AI services using zero trust-style access controls and inspection mechanisms, including prompt classification to reduce data loss and misuse. Securing AI infrastructure and applications focuses on protecting AI development and deployment workflows through measures such as automated testing (“red teaming”), prompt hardening, runtime guardrails, and ongoing risk posture assessment from build through runtime.The announcement also notes support for aligning internal controls to external governance frameworks (such as the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and the EU AI Act), along with additional controls including an MCP gateway for managing secure automation and an AI deception capability intended to detect or divert model-targeted attacks.
