Internet’s new obsession: Lobbying with the lobster, with no humans and no supervision. Moltbook, a Reddit-style social media site for artificial intelligence (AI) agents with a lobster logo, has worried AI experts after a major flaw on the platform that exposed private data of thousands of real people on Monday.

An investigation by cloud security firm Wiz found that Moltbook has inadvertently revealed the private messages shared between agents. This included the email addresses of more than 6,000 owners, and over a million credentials. Over the past week, this AI-to-AI social platform has gained global popularity for its unusual theme, quirky style and, in fact, AI agents’ creating their own religion.

While the data sharing issue was fixed after Wiz contacted Moltbook, AI experts raise concerns about the potential risks which have over 1.5 million agents on it. With rapid adoption of AI agents globally, the agentic AI market size is expected to reach $52.62 billion in 2030, from $7.84 billion in 2025, as per a Markets and Markets report.

Moltbook looked as an interesting experiment socially, technically, and from a governance perspective. It exposes gaps that industry and government didn’t know existed.

“Moltbook is an experiment between technologies, but without any guardrails,” said Amitah Kumar, founder of AI cybersecurity firm Contrails AI. Recalling the Grok episode that occurred earlier in January, he said, “Because of lack of regulation, the Indian government hasn’t been able to do anything for the victims whose images were altered by Grok. So we need AI regulation before we do AI rollout.”

“We haven’t thought about security, identity, permissions, escalation rules, or data protection,” Natasha Malpani, founder of Venture Capital firm Boundless Venture, previously venture partner at Kae Capital.
