Kaspersky blocks 64M removable-device attacks in India, ETCISO
Nearly one in three computer users in India faced on-device attacks in 2025, according to Kaspersky.
The report said 29.8% of users in India encountered local, on-device threats last year. These threats were delivered through USB drives, removable media and other offline sources.
In total, Kaspersky products detected 64,631,897 local incidents on the computers of users in India during 2025. The report places India among the top 80 countries globally in terms of local cyber threat exposure.
Globally, malicious attacks rose 7% in 2025 compared to 2024. Kaspersky said its systems detected nearly 500,000 malicious files daily during the year.
The company also reported a 59% increase in password stealer detections and a 51% rise in spyware detections worldwide. It added that threats impersonating popular AI tools also increased, reflecting how attackers are exploiting the rapid adoption of AI platforms.
According to Adrian Hia, Managing Director for Asia Pacific at Kaspersky, malware hidden in encrypted files and complex installers remained a significant threat in 2025. He said the Asia-Pacific region saw a considerable increase in spyware and password stealer attacks, which can allow cybercriminals to access files and harvest sensitive data from infected devices.
He also said attackers were found impersonating collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams and Google Drive to trick users into downloading malware aimed at stealing login credentials, banking information and personal data.
